G’Day All
Thats right i’m a very lucky boy, check out the photo’s on my flickr page.
Yesterday, wed 26th i went on a tour to San Marino and on a descent i forgot i should have been on the right side of the road on a fast bend and at the same time as a car came the other way, at about 40+kmh i hit the car head on, the vellum is a mess and also the front zipp wheel, but luckily i got away with a sore right shoulder and some cuts on my leg.
The riders behind me thought the worst and said that it looked pretty good, but didnt expect me to get up.
The hotel has done a fab job getting me back to the hotel and getting looked at by there own doctor and looks like will help me replace my pride and joy, thanks to the Belvedere.

One down - two to go!

Posted on 19th March 2008 by admin in Events

With only two weeks to go after tonight, we couldn’t be closer if we wanted to be in the point scores.

A Grade - a single point now separate the two Michael’s - Dawson and Bailey - 112 to 111 - with Adam Pater waiting in the wings on 103 points and Paul Sims, 96, a mathematical chance of also being in the hunt.

B Grade is a bit wider - James McArdle (even after a week in A Grade) on 99 points and Tony Bullock on 81 points.

C Grade (with a total of 54 riders having competed in this grade in the past 8 weeks) sees Doug Simpson on 77 points and then Andrew Hollole (68) Ivan Tarrant (66) and Rod Arndt (59) all just waiting to pounce.

C Grade Women is starting to get closer - Jane Ollerenshaw now on 105 closely followed by Yvonne Gallien on 100 points. If they continue to race the way they each have for this Series this is going to be one of the closest finishes yet - but we will have to wait and see what happens over the next two weeks.

D Grade is about the only Grade that looks, on paper, to be all sewn up - Paul Laragy on 99 points leads David Blair on 76. BUT with 20 points for a win and 2 rounds to go, it isn’t sealed just yet.

Juniors - Richard Ly assumed the lead this week on 136 points from Daniel Ealey on 134 points - this was Daniels first missed Crits this season and could be crucial over the next 2 weeks.

After sprinting away at the start of the season, Team Bezerk-CPA didn’t pick up any points this week and remain on 417. The other side of the coin, though, saw Team Bicycle Superstore pick up points for a 4th place and 3 1st’s for 72 points giving them a total of 305 in 2nd place in the Teams Championship. Even with a gap of 102 points, Bicycle Superstore have 7 riders capable of closing this gap next week - anyone want to lay odds on Team Bezerk-CPA ensuring all of their riders compete next week?

So - a close point score for Series 2 2007/2008 - it may get closer yet.

Don’t forget - next week - Juniors start at 6:10 pm and, depending on numbers, we anticipate 2 races for B & D Grade first then A, C and Women at 7:00pm. The final week - Juniors at 6:10 pm, then ALL grades start at 7:35pm for a 30/60 minute event - 30 minutes for everyone that is timed and is the final race for points followed, without a break, for any rider WITH LIGHTS to continue for another 30 minutes.

Session at the Office.

A perfect sized bunch of 8 keen riders showed up this morning for a cruisy 9am ride threw the Officer bike park/scout camp, the team consisted of Myself, Peter Liston, Paul Consto, Michael Singelenberg, David Baily, David Blair, Rohan Williams and James Mcardle. We met at the Officer Recreation Reserve and made our way to the scout park at a light pace in order to warm up the legs before hitting any real tracks.

With a wide variety of skill levels within the group, and a few first timers to the course, we were in no rush and were able to dissect the course down to its most basic form.

I thought this would be the best way to do things hopefully, reassuring the newer riders confidence in tackling the more difficult sections. For the more experienced campaigners this studying of the course made those steep drops that had been ridden a million times before all the more daunting! Subsequently Mr Baily thought it might of been best to throw the new comers off the deep end therefor bypassing the scare factor that arises from looking at a steep drop for too long.

We rode the largest possible loop Officer can offer. We saw some great riding, some spectacular crashes and possibly learnt a thing or two on the way. To make things a bit more interesting I’ve made some fictitious awards for the stand out efforts of the day.

PINNER of the day would have to be Michael ‘EMO’ Singelenberg, simply because he attempted a nasty drop early in the ride under my own instruction on how to ride the section with greater efficiency. Any way his first attempt sent him over the handle bars and amongst the scrub. The impressive bit was the fact he got straight back up and without saying a word saddled up and PINNED it the very next attempt.

STACK of the day would have to go to none other then new comer Rohan ‘GRAVEL RASH’ Williams. Got nothing but respect for this guy. I can literally chose from about 3 different scenarios, all by Rohan I might add. He just kept on getting back on the horse and trying and trying again and again. It was lucky we went home when we did or we might of had to send him home in a body bag. The particular crash that gets the accolades wasn’t actually seen by myself, but the aftermath was. He must of been in full flight when he collided head first with a tree, because his helmet was looking a bit worse for wear, I mean it was left in 2 pieces held together by the hard cover! Your as tough as NAILS gravel rash, keep riding.

In the end I think most of us enjoyed the ride. Im sure there were things I could of done a little different, and although it wasn’t a massive ride, any rides better then none! as they say.

We’ll see what the feedbacks like before I set another one.

This message is for those that have contacted me about my social ride on Sunday. Numbers are full!

Hello everyone. Just a reminder that My ride will be taking place this Sunday The 16th of March. The ride will take approximately 2.5 hours and it looks like its going to be a little hot so remember the sun lotion and lots of water.

We wont be smashing ourselves and there will be frequent stops to ease the load.

Don’t forget those spare tubes and pumps either.

There has been ONE MINOR CHANGE, that is we are starting at Officer Recreation Reserve (Melway Ref 214 J,3) for a little extra distance to warm up to the track.

See you all there

G’Day From the Old Dart

Posted on 4th March 2008 by admin in General

G’Day All
Well got over to London after a fairly uneventful trip, slept well and it wasn’t until we landed at Heathrow that we had any drama’s, as there is a plane every 90 secs we didnt have any where to get off the plane so just had to sit and wait and then when they found a carpark spot somewhere on the tarmac we had to then load onto a bus to the terminal building.
The weather is clearish skies in the morning then clouds over from about lunch time, cold bloody hell nothing over about 8 deg during the day, but at least it’s not raining, yet!
As it’s tues were off to London to have a bit of a look around the places i missed last time and this time by my own personal tour guide, then on wed were off to south Wales.
Thanks to Scotty L for putting up a great report from the Crit Champs, i must also say how overwelmed i was with the turnout and kind words from one and all, i hope you all keep supporting Knobbysports.
If you wish to catch up with where i will be just keep logging onto My blog page.
Cheers and keep riding

Sunday 16th March

Posted on 4th March 2008 by admin in Events

So I hear there’s a ride happening on Sunday the 16th of March. This is an unofficial ride, and I do want to keep the numbers to a minimum but your welcome to come and enjoy the day. I open this invitation to only Knobbysports riders. An easy ride for those that just want that one extra ride a week other then the mad crit racing down at Bushy Park, and that would like to improve there skills by riding with some more experienced riders. Juniors encouraged!

I’ll be bringing my Dad along (hopefuly) and Paul Consto and Michael Singelenberg have also commited to the ride. Let me know if you want to come so I know who we will be expecting.

The ride starts at 9:00am, at GWS Anderson Scout Park. Dickie Road, Officer. Melways Map 212 Ref H9

Cheers ScottyL
