Bout time for a race report!

Posted on 30th November 2007 by admin in Events

Who knew with all the expected “Storms” looming we’d have exceptional weather for rnd 5 of the Original MTB crits.

All though the turnout wasn’t a record breaker we still had 41 pumped riders for half an hour of muscle madness.

The 6:30 slot of C, D, Juniours and Women was the fastest racing by those grades I’d seen to date! The winter legs are well an truely getting left behind, rolling into some respectablte form early in the season.

C Graders Russel King (1st) and Darren Edwards (2nd) lit up the track seperated by only 17 seconds with 9 laps. Pushing ever so closely to B grade.

D Graders Anthony Long (1st) and Ivan Tarrant (2nd) proved to be the stand outs, both being the only D Graders that managed to hit up 8 laps

The Womens feild (if field is the right word) was dominated by Melanie McConnell, the one and only female rider for this round. Melanie was spitting out some fast laps and managed to split the Mens field in half finishing on 8 laps.

A similar story to the Womens class was the Juniors, with 1 junior; Matthew Lacsni riding strong to finish on6 laps.

On to the 7:30 slot. A grade was taken out by Scott Liston (me) to Paul Sims (2nd) and Jason Halls (3rd)

But the race of the night goes to B grade, with moves all over the place on the Bell lap produce the most exciting finish to date. Scott Needham (1st) Andrew Brockway (2nd) and Paul Liston (3rd) fighting it out on the final climb to claim bragging rights.

Check out the Series standings on the racing page of the knobbysports website to see where everyone stands.

Cheers and see you all next week

It does get better!

G’Day All
Well i had a great day on saturday down at Anglesea.
i entered the Australian Veteran Road Championships, with 85km in front of us, i didnt have much chance but i was there and was hopeful.
At the 14 or 13 laps to go mark i broke away after an initial break that got caught i just jumped and one rider came with me.
We stayed away for the rest of the race with 3 laps to where the bunch got to within 30 secs, but that was it so it was down to a sprint and tactics, but i lead out, stupid, but i saw him jump and away we went, and i cleared away for my best win.
Now Australian Veteran Road champ for 45 to 49

Doesn’t get much Better!

Posted on 14th November 2007 by admin in Events

G’Day All
Well another great nite for racing and didn’t we now it, 57 riders fronted up to set another mark.
Not only that but the Chardy Club came out of hibernation, yes finally Heather had some company.
A big thanks to Heather and Deb for helping with the lap scoring, and apologies to the riders for no lap scoring as Stephen was enjoying the theatre.
Also a new Team Challenge kicked off with 7 Teams, Pinnacle Cycles, Croydon Cycleworks, Bezerk Cycles, Closer Racing, Norco, Kaos and Team CPA.Not to sure as i go to print how the points went for the first Challenge but it will be up soon.
So if there are any other shops, clubs or companies out there better get on board quick.
Also with another staggering turnout for C Grade i am up for a survey to the question:
Do we offer 2 divisions in C Grade?
Start blogging me we will have an answer for next weeks racing.
As for points in grades, if you move up a grade through the course of the season half of your points move up with you.
Also a big pat on the back for all riders, your parking and driving has been great, now with the huge turnout we need to be aware of this issue and everyone has done a great job.
So fire in those answers C Grade.
Cheers

New World Record!!

Posted on 7th November 2007 by admin in Events

G’Day All
CONGRATULATIONS to all those riders that are enjoying THE ORIGINAL MTB CRITS, what a night, 47 keen as MTBers turned out on a near perfect night on a perfect course.
Well almost, except for a birth of a calf while A and B grade were racing, 35 riders in C grade, with 4 ladies and 3 juniors, the pace was on from the start until those damn tree’s which sorted out the congo line and got a few breaks in traffic to ease the lap scorers frantic checking. First home and a promotion to B grade was Ben Meadley, second and also a trip up to B was Andrew Brockway, with Daniel Oldfield 3rd. First lady home was Jane Ollerenshaw in 17th spot, next was Kelly Linaker in 23rd and Rachel Whiffen in 30th, well done to all the girls. The juniors saw a suprise win to Nick Paul with Joel Richmond back in second and a huge effort by first timer Chris Robson.
Next up was B grade with blistering speed by Simon Ross out front and was never headed, earning him a spot in A grade, second was Paul Liston and 3rd John Forbes.
A grade saw the usual congo line for the first half of the race until the pace lifted and we saw a couple of groups form, taking out the win was the World Champ, just in time for his assault on the across the country record, second was Luke Garside and 3rd Sam Baker.
The pinnacle boys need to watch there back as Annaconda, Croydon Cycleworks and Adapt a lift are starting to infiltrate and gain points, i will organise a team points system, so next week register your alliance to a shop or club or company and we’ll see who has the best support, the guantlet has been thrown down, who will reign supreme, sorry got carried away with some iron chef quotes.
Once again great to see some many new riders and i hope everyone enjoyed the night, in 2 weeks time we will have our first Pizza Nite, so until next week,
Cheers

THE ORIGINAL MTB CRITS: WE’RE BACK

Posted on 1st November 2007 by admin in Events

G’Day All
Well just as well i was sitting down taking entries last nite, cause i would’ve fallen over with the numbers, it was a fantastic turnout, and a huge pat on the back to all those new riders and regulars for coming, with mention to having 3 ladies and some juniors, but disappointingly only one Chardy club member, who was A/ confused as we moved the start / finish and there regular spot, and B/ almost crossed over from a Chardy girl to a Bike riding chick.
The new and improved track was a big hit for those that turned up once last season and never came back, but this year they loved it.
The improvements that Stephen has made with timing and results has also made a huge difference, and now we are the leaders in MTB results and getting them out to our riders quickly and efficiently.
To Scott Liston for reinvigorating the website and the great job he has done on it.
Consto at Pinnacle Cycles, who has tirelessly promoted the events and support of Knobbysports.
As a result of the large numbers again, we will test run the times, so if the turn out is still popular A and B Grade may start a little later, but keep watching this blog for details.
One down ( just a little pun ) side to the nite was when Jane O cranked a big gear off the dam ( or should it be DAMN ) wall and flew over the bars after hitting a solid lump of cow pad, and everyone worries about the soft ones.
But a big well done to all those riders who stopped, i think it was the whole field, to make sure Jane was ok.
Thankyou one and all for making the nite an enjoyable one
Cya next week
